I played it off well, but I was racking my brain for a completely unoffensive way to tell her that she might want to reconsider her outfit.
It's a touchy subject with her. A few months ago I told her her clothes didn't match two days in a row. Then she started wanting me to pick out all her clothes (including pajamas). Sounds nice, but I was worried about her self esteem. I thought I had ruined it by telling her that her opinion of what does and does not match was off. Just VERY recently I convinced her to pick out her own outfits again.
But this one.......
Should I just let her wear it? What if she gets made fun of? What if she yells of me when she is older for letting her wear that in public? What if she puts together ensembles like this one everyday?
What would you do?

I actually think it is cute, and I am dead serious! You know leg warmers are totally in, her socks just kinda look like leg warmers!!! ;) I would just let her wear it, maybe she'll start a new trend at her school!
How hilarious :-). If she had school that day I might at least suggest a different pair of socks, but if not, oh well. Where did you guys get your toddler bed? I think that may be the route we go for Addie for now and yours is super cute.
Let her wear it. Who cares. she picked it out, it's all good. It is actually kind of cute. I have made many trips to target in ballerina costumes and power ranger ensembles.
I think that it is cute and I'd let her wear it, especially since no kids her age are going to make comments because it really isn't that outlandish and leg warmers are in style (I agree her socks do look leg warmer-ish :) She'll appreciate you allowing her independence I'm sure.
I think this outfit is cute!! But I am a sucker for knee highs. In high school, I wore knee highs a lot-and got teased for it. I didn't care about what other people thought. A year later, knee highs became trendy, and the girls that had teased me the year prior were wearing them!!!
I give Charlotte props for being an original. If she gets teased and doesn't like it, chances are she will conform. But maybe she will become a trend setter. I'm guessing she is one of the coolest kids in her class.
I am with Erica on this one. I think she is a trend setter. and look how proud she looks of her choices. Way to go Charlotte! I wish she could pick out my work clothers..i need a little imagination like that....
aunt mona
I have the same dilemma with Kiley. At first I would make her change, but I worried about her feeling good about herself too, so we came up with a plan together... On school days i pick her school clothes, and she can come home and change into whatever she wants after, and days with no school are free game. Try that.
I have very specific memories of being dressed for school by you and mom. I had my own sense of what was cool and what was not. I remember crying more than once about having to wear stretchy pants with elastic that went under my foot because I thought I looked ridiculous, and not wanting to wear bell bottom jeans because I thought they were boy pants. I say let her wear what she picks out when she picks it out, cause pictures like these are funny and cute later on. if not immediately.
You will all be happy to know that I didn't say a word and I let her wear it to school. I am now considering buying her some leg warmers though.
Oh Michele, do you remember the discussions you and I had morning, afternoon, and night about what you would and wouldn't wear? Nothing brown - boy color - nothing loose - it looked too sloppy - and nothing that anyone else had already worn - someone might think you were copying! I think Charlotte is starting younger than you though. I agree with everyone else, I think the outfit is cute.
I think leg warmers are awesome! i wear them all the time. Charlotte's such a cutie.
I'm getting married in a couple of months and was wondering if I could send you guys an invite. you can email me your address jessahoward@gmail.com
Thanks!
