Apple Orchard Field Trip

Elsie had a field trip to a little Apple Orchard in Oakhurst on the same day as a Parade of Colleges at Aaron and Charlotte's school. I also had a conflict with Charlotte's first field trip to Storyland and aiding in Elsie's class. I ended up missing Charlotte's field trip since I knew that there would be tons of help from other parents. I also missed the parade because Elsie would have missed her field trip if I didn't go.

We drove up to a tiny (very, very tiny) apple orchard and went on a nature walk.

We had to leave early to pick Charlotte up from the bus so we missed out on the picnic.

If I'm being honest I really didn't think it was worth the gas it took to get there, but Elsie said she had fun.

Now I have to go decide which of the two soccer games, Aaron's or Charlotte's... both at the same time... on two different fields... across town from each other... I am going to attend tomorrow.

Movie Night

On most Friday nights we stay home, eat pizza and watch a movie. We started this about 3 or 4 years ago and I think we all look forward to Friday nights.

Photobucket

most often we make homemade pizza (I am very slowly learning to enjoy help from the kids)

Photobucket
Right now we are in the middle of The Last Airbender series and we all love it.

Photobucket
I really hope that when the kids are teenagers they still enjoy our movie nights...I would be so sad if they became too cool to hang out with their parents on a Friday night.

Aaron's room makeover

When we bought our house Aaron told me that he wanted his room to be brown on the bottom and blue on the top so that he could pretend that his room was a boat. In a moment of forgetfulness I made an impulse decision and picked out this green color for his room. While it did match his rug nicely it did not match his pirate quilt.
Luckily (and also kind of sad) within about 6 months he stopped loving pirates so much and he started to love everything army. So, I went out in search of some camo prints and made him a new quilt!

He loves his new bedding and it looks much better with his paint color.

His room screams boy which is good for him, living in this housefull of pink and babydolls and ruffles.
I just hope he continues to like it for at least a few more years!

Sunday Dinners

When I was pregnant with Lila my Dad decided that we should have a break the fast meal every fast Sunday. He was still living at the house on Dayton at the time and had a beautiful backyard so all of our meals were eaten out there in the shade. It was fun and I always looked forward to fast Sunday.

Then earlier this year my dad moved into the same ward as Grandma, LaRee and our family. I'm not sure how it happened, but after (or sometimes during) Sacrament meeting we would all get talking about dinner and our break the fast dinners turned into an every Sunday thing.

Photobucket
We all take turns hosting and bringing different dishes and no one has to cook the whole meal. We usually have warm french bread and always dessert! Most often we don't even plan the menu until we are at church, but it always comes together and it is delicious every week!

Nick's Birthday Week!

Last Sunday we had friends and family over for desert to celebrate Nick's birthday.

Photobucket

Nick requested Lemon Merangue Pie and Carrot Cake, I also made chocolate cupcakes and strawberry pizza.
(I should have done a better job ironing my table cloth!)

Nick had a meeting the evening of his actual birthday so we had our own little celebration for him at home on the day before. We hid his presents again this year and we sang "row, row, row your boat" quietly or really loud depending on how close he was to the presents. Next year I am going to video tape him looking for his presents. The kids get sooo excited about it!

(All of his gifts...a few from the night before)

this bag of candy definitely required his new BIG knife from Christian to open

and of course we just had to try out his new popcorn popper before going to bed!

The next morning was his real birthday, so I decided to actually make breakfast instead of just pouring cereal. But then he was off to a full day at work.
We had a small window of time together for dinner and I had a very busy day so we met up at Applebees in between work and his meetings.

Aaron had to bring his homework, but here he is sneaking a peek at the television.
The next day Nick left for an overnight flight and didn't return until Thursday night, so his requested birthday dinner of Ham and scalloped potatoes had to wait until Friday. We usually have pizza, but no one was complaining.(I forgot to take pictures of this part)
Hope you had a great week Nick!
