Hat Creek 2010 - Day 1

This year was the year for the Sigman camping trip/family reunion! We left at 4am to get there early enough to enjoy the first day. It is an 8 hour drive (including lots of stops for the kids) so we wanted to get an early start! The kids were so excited, counting down months, weeks, days then hours until we left.

We also stopped in Redding for lunch, but no pictures. We heard that McDonalds had The Last Airbender (our new favorite show) toys in their happy meals and I promised the kids we could get some for lunch.

Finally here!! The campsite is on a working cattle ranch. There are cows everywhere and we love it!

As soon as we arrived the kids were ready to swim

The town of Burney always celebrates the 4th of July on Saturday... not sure why. We missed the parade but we joined them at the high school for the firework show.

Diane,
Really?? No camping?! What else do families with young children do in the summertime?:)

Mona,
Thanks! Nick and I were both taking pictures. I got good at holding REALLY STILL! It was fun!

Ok, to be completely honest, Dallas probably has some camping and maybe Houston, because both areas have water and lots of trees. BUT there are no mountains, thus, no elevation to relieve the temperature. I found ONE campground with some pines and a little lake. It looks nice BUT it is 95 degrees with 60% humidity (which feels like 105). You have to stay in an air conditioned cabin, or swim to survive. Of course, you could pitch a tent if you want to share the ground with coral snakes, cotton mouths, scorpions and lizards in the hot muggy nights. and this is coming from someone who LOVES to tent camp! I really miss camping and we have actually driven back to CA twice to camp at Summerdale....that is pretty desperate!

Ha! I have seen a picture of myself at summerdale as a young child, but I don't remember it. My dad said he wasn't too fond of it so the tradition died on our side of the Freeman Family. I know that the Ralph and Linda side go often though. We have fallen in love with the Oceano campground by pismo... and of course Hat Creek!
